RETRIEVER TRAINING

This training is for any dog that is intended to be a duck, goose, or dove dog. Any of the retrieving breeds fit perfectly into our Retriever Training Program. We start by bringing out the natural prey drive in dogs and encourage desire by utilizing a positive, but balanced, training philosophy throughout every stage of training. We don't rush the dogs as the mature through training because every dog matures at its own rate.

BASIC RETRIEVER

Start your pup off right

Our puppy program is 1 month in duration and this is when we begin teaching the pup commands and introducing new things in a fun and positive way. We introduce the pup to gunfire, birds, water, numerous working conditions, and treat obedience. We teach the commands: Sit, Here, Heel, Place, Kennel, and a few other informal commands and cues. If you're goal is top tier retrieving dog we recommend starting with this program.

Standard Retriever/Duck dog

The Basic Retriever Program starts with a solid foundation of obedience, where we will teach Sit, Heel, Here, Place, and Kennel for both on and off leash. Then we expose the dogs to new things such as birds, bumpers, water, gunfire, etc. Now we move to force fetch where we teach the commands Fetch, Hold, and Drop. This training is to teach a reliable delivery to hand. While we're doing this we are having the dog run marks on land and water to increase confidence. Now we start the steadiness process and expose the dog to every situation your dog could potentially see. This could be duck hunting from a boat, blind, or layout, and we teach quartering with flushing to hunt wounded or dead birds. At the end of this program your dog will be ready to hunt any bird you can put them on.

ADVANCED RETRIEVER

Satisfaction Guaranteed

Our Advanced Retriever Training Program is where we teach a dog to run blind retrieves on land and water, as well as, perform multiple retrieves through a variety of distractions. This is for the serious hunter with a serious dog. We teach the dog to sit on a whistle and take hand signals given by the handler to direct the dog to a bird it did not see fall. No more trudging through the marsh after ducks that sailed off. Depending on the time of year one of our trainers will take the dog hunting to work through some real life situations that may come up. This level of training is comparable to Senior and Master level hunt test training. The dog is required to have completed a basic retriever program before it can be considered for our Advanced Program.

POINTER TRAINING

This training is for any dog that is intended to be an upland wild birddog. Any of the pointing breeds fit perfectly into our Pointer Training Program. We start by bringing out the natural prey drive in dogs and encourage desire by utilizing a positive, but balanced, training philosophy throughout every stage of training. We don't rush the dogs as the mature through training because every dog matures at its own rate.

BASIC POINTER

Start your pup off right

It is very important to start training your pup early. Our puppy program is 1 month in duration and this is when we begin teaching the pup commands and introducing new things in a fun and positive way. Our primary goal is to bring out the pointing instinct in the puppy.  We introduce the pup to gunfire, birds, water, numerous working conditions, and treat obedience. We teach the commands: Sit, Here, Heel, Place, Kennel, and a few other informal commands and cues. This is the time where its very important to create a positive experience in the field and around flushing birds.

Field Ready Birddog

Our Basic Pointer Program is based around letting the bird contacts and field time mold the dog into a confident bird finder. The bird does most of the training, we just setup the situation. We teach the commands Kennel, Here, and Whoa to a high level with both whistle and verbal commands. The dog will be exposed to pigeons, quail, chukar, and pheasants so the dog can learn how to handle each type of bird and that they are looking for more than just one type of bird. We don't stress the retrieve in this program but we do encourage it. The dog will learn to quarter, hold point, stop on the flush, come and whoa on command at great distances. The goal of this program is to have a stylish hunting partner that is a reliable bird finder.

ADVANCED POINTER

Satisfaction Guaranteed

The Advanced Pointer Training Program prepares your dog to hunt with the best. We continue to put it into hunting situations with as many bird contacts as possible. Here we continue to teach control by having the dog work with another dog and to back a dog when another dog is on point to prevent one of the dogs jumping in on the bird. We stress to the dog that the other dog is a teammate and not a competitor. We also teach the dog to be steady through the flush, shot, and fall, and to only leave when the handler releases the dog to retrieve the dead bird to find another. Depending on the time of year, one of our trainers will take the dog out and have it work off a truck and hunt for wild birds. At the end of this program you will have a polished, bird finding machine. All dogs must have completed a Basic Pointer Program before being considered for the Advanced Pointer Program.

FLUSHER TRAINING

This program was designed for retrieving dogs hunting with the avid upland hunter. Any of the retrieving breeds fit perfectly into our Flusher Training Program. We start by bringing out the natural prey drive in dogs and encourage desire by utilizing a positive, but balanced, training philosophy throughout every stage of training. We don't rush the dogs as the mature through training because every dog matures at its own rate.

Then we expose the dogs to new things such as birds, bumpers, water, gunfire, etc.  While we're doing this we are having the dog run simple marks on land and water to increase confidence. We spend lots of time in the field with the dog teaching it different places the birds can be hiding. We introduce working with a pointing dog but its not a main focus in the program. The dog learns to ride on a ATV and a boat. We teach quartering and how to chase down wounded birds through thick cover. Typically, we don't force fetch a dog with this program but if desired it can be done. At the end of this program your dog will be ready to hunt any bird you can put them on.

ADVANCED FLUSHER

Satisfaction Guaranteed

Our Advanced Flusher Program was developed with the hardcore upland hunter in mind. If you want your flushers to work with your pointers this program is for you. We teach the dog to keep a close range with the hunter while on foot and on command to flush the birds that the pointer has found. We don't recommend trying this with a young pointer. We will also teach the dog to stop on a whistle and take a cast from the handler to either retrieve a dead bird or two search a certain piece of cover. The dog must have completed a Basic Flusher Program before being considered for the Advanced Flusher Program.

VERSATILE TRAINING

This training program is a combination of our Basic Pointing and Basic Retriever Program. The breeds that commonly fit into this type of program are versatile breeds such as Wirehaired Pointing Griffons, German Wirehair Pointers, Brittanys, Pudelpointers, German Shorthair Pointers, and all the other versatile breeds. We start by bringing out the natural prey drive in dogs and encourage desire by utilizing a positive, but balanced, training philosophy throughout every stage of training. We don't rush the dogs as the mature through training because every dog matures at its own rate. This is especially true for the versatile dogs.

BASIC VERSATILE DOG

Start your pup off right.

It is very important to start training your versatile puppy early. We expose the pup to all types of cover, water, gunfire, live and dead birds, pointing, bumpers, group running, retrieving, working off a truck, duck blinds, duck calls, etc. We begin the obedience lessons with treats where we will teach Here, Heel, Sit, Whoa, Place, Kennel, and teach the pup its name. In all our training programs we like to get the dog young so we can develop certain traits as the dog matures but this is really the case with versatile pups. If started wrong or not introduced properly to the right things your dog will never reach its full potential. If you are willing to do this part on your own please contact us and we will explain what needs to be done.

Field Ready Versatile Dog

Our Basic Versatile Training Program starts with building prey drive and obedience lessons. We let the birds teach the prey drive and pointing lessons while we teach the obedience and retrieving lessons. The obedience commands we teach are Here, Heel, Kennel, Place, Whoa, and Sit. We teach the recall and release command with both whistle and verbal commands. We expose the pup to gunfire in pointing and retrieving situations. With this program we encourage the natural retrieve with a taught hold but if requested we can put the dog through a full force fetch program. The dog will learn to stay in front of the hunter on foot or ATV and to hold point until the birds are flushed by the shooter. This program is rather extensive and we are asking a lot of these dogs so it takes time to develop a confident versatile dog. But, if you're willing to wait the finished product is something to marvel at.

ADVANCED VERSATILE DOG

Satisfaction Guaranteed

The Advanced Versatile Training Program takes your versatile dog to the next level. This program has some flexibility because we know everybody has a type of hunting they do more than other so we focus on that. If you don't want to customize it, this is where we teach the dog to be truly versatile. On the retrieving side, we teach the dog to run blinds and perform multiple retrieves. We also teach the dog to honor another dogs retrieve in the duck blind. On the pointing side, we teach the dog to honor another dog on point and steadiness through wing, shot, and fall while on point. Your dog must've completed our Basic Versatile Program before being considered for the Advanced Program. Depending on the time of year and the owner is okay with it, one of our trainers will take the dog on a wild bird hunt and use it when our trainers guide hunts to get the dog as many bird contacts as possible.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING

OBEDIENCE

Start your pup off right

If you want a well behaved pup its very important to socialize the right way and start the obedience lessons early. If your puppy seems reactive or timid I would highly recommend this program. We start by teaching the puppy that the world is just one big place to play and earn treats. We introduce older dogs, big dogs, small dogs, livestock, loud noises, uneven surfaces, surprises and kids. This is a very positive program where we can promise your pup will have a good time.

Good Manners in and Around the Home.

This is where we teach formal obedience and behavior modification for aggressive or reactive dogs. We customize our obedience program to the desires of the owner. We start by teaching the commands on leash in a controlled environment, then slowly increase the level of distractions. Finally, we build up the level of control until we can move off leash in highly stimulating environments.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Dog Training Tutor

One-on-one time where one of our trainers will work with you and your dog. This is not a group setup so the trainers focus will solely be on your dog. This is a great option for someone wanting to learn more about the training process and have the trainer train both your dog and you. We recommend a few Private Lessons after your dog has completed our obedience program so you can learn how to handle the dog.
